PROFESSOR Chen Youbang, after graduating from the Jiangsu College of Traditional Chinese Medicine in 1958, worked successively at the Bei-jing College of Traditional Chinese Medicine and China Academy of Traditional Chinesie Medicine, where he lectured, practised and conducted research on acupuncture and moxibustion for about twenty years.
He was the chief editor of Brief Acupuncture and Moxibustion Therapy and Acupuncture and Mox-ibustion Therapy. He was also a co-author of Essentials of Acupuncture and Moxibustion and The Simple Introduction to Meridians and Col-laterals. Since 1978, he has been engaged in the administration of traditional Chinese medicine. He was the vice-director of the Bureau of Traditional Chinese Medicine in the Ministry of Public Health and is currently the director of the Office Bureau of the State Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine, the vice-president of the China Association of Acu-puncture and Moxibustion, and the treasurer of the World Federation of Acupuncture-Moxibustion Societies,
This book consists of sixty-nine articles. Every article is composed of three parts.
-Part One gives a brief introduction to the author's background, achievements and more. .
-Part Two deals with the academic characteristics and medical specialities; it covers the theory, technique, prescription, acupoints, acupuncture and moxibustion treatment and other treatment (e. g. qi-gong, massage), and the instruments of acupuncture and moxibustion.
